JOTA – Quantum’s first amateur radio special event station

Members of Quantum were down in Porthmadog over the weekend of the 15th and 16th of October 2016. Derek (G7LFC), Rebecca (M6BUB) and Alison (M6COV) worked with Simon (MW0GSR), a Scout leader at the 1st Porthmadog Scout Group, to run a Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) amateur radio special event station. What is JOTA? JOTA (Jamboree on the Air) is an opportunity for Scouts to learn about new technologies and gain their Communicator's badge by making contact with other JOTA stations and Amateur Radio operators around the world. This is the second time that the family team of amateur radio operators from Ormskirk will have travelled south to assist the Scout group. In 2015 they had a great weekend working with the Scouts who were all extremely grateful for the efforts that were put in to making the event so memorable and so much fun.
