The Quantum Amateur Radio & Technology Society (QuARTS) believe that all children should have the opportunity to experience and experiment with technology; that includes building electronic circuits, programming computers and building web sites. So we have decided to establish the Quantum Code Club, an official Code Club in Ormskirk to enable young folk (aged 9-16) to build and share their ideas, learning new skills along the way. We are now one of over 6000 clubs in over 80 countries.
Have fun with technology
Whilst some of technology subjects are taught at school, we understand that schools don’t have the time or the resources to enable young folk to experiment with technology. It is experimentation that reinforces learning and stimulates genuine interest, so the Quantum Code Club aims to complement what is taught at school and give young people the time to play, experiment and have fun with technology.
At the Quantum Code Club young folk are able to follow easy step-by-step guides to learn Scratch, HTML & CSS and Python by making games, animations, websites and controlling electronic circuits that they have built. The projects are specifically designed to introduce coding concepts to allow young people to build their knowledge incrementally.
Supported by experts
All of this is backed up by our team of technologists who are experts in their field. We have professional web designers, electronic engineers, radio communications engineers and programmers, some of whom are qualified teachers, that can all help young folk to develop their skills.
Ormskirk is also blessed with having one of the country’s top teacher training universities in the town, Edge Hill, and we hope to involve some of their top student teachers to come and help run the activities at the club. This will further enhance the learning experience of the young folk who attend.
Code Club – Skills for life
The skills that the Quantum Code Club nurtures are skills for life and will help those that attend to go on a forge a career in computing, electronics, or engineering.
