QuARTS, the Quantum Amateur Radio & Technology Society, is an exciting new technology group that is based in Ormskirk, Lancashire. It was formed on the 26th October 2016 by a group of like-minded amateur technologists, makers and crafters who wanted a place to practice their hobby, share their interests with their peers, enthuse and encourage others with an interest in technology and promote technology as a hobby to others.

Quantum Code Club

The primary goal was to establish a Code Club in Ormskirk, a place where young people (9-16) could come along and experiment with technology in a safe and secure environment. It took a little while to get everything in place, but on the 12th of January 2017 eight young folk gathered for the first meeting.

Quantum Technology Club

With the Code Club up-and-running the founding members turned their thoughts to getting the Technology Club established. The idea was to run meetings along the lines of the many hack-spaces that have sprung up all around the country in recent years.

The club is run for the benefit of its member’s interests. Members will meet together to learn, experiment, share and inspire with plenty of tea and coffee available throughout the night; and there may be the odd pizza too!

The Quantum Technology Club is part of a nationwide network of volunteer coding clubs that is part of the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

We are listed on the Hackerspaces web-site as an official hack space for makers.

We affiliated to the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB), the national representative body for the 60,000+ amateur radio operators in the UK.

We have applied to become an affiliated member of the international CoderDojo movement, a worldwide collection of free, volunteer-led, community-based programming clubs for young people.
