Sanjay Mortimer and E3D

Sanjay Mortimer was the founder of E3D, a leading supplier of 3D printing equipment, accessories and consumables for the 3D printer community. The business was established “to change the way humanity manufactures goods”. With strong ethics on inventing, manufacturing and reinvesting to go through the cycle again, E3D are committed to supporting private, non-commercial and experimenting academics through the use of open-source licensing of some of their products.

Sadly, aged just 32, Sanjay died in 2021. Living with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) he had barrels of enthusiasm and excitement, but was able to take brave decisions. His generosity abounded. Sanjay’s legacy lives on through the Sanjay Mortimer Foundation.

Sanjay Mortimer Foundation

The Sanjay Mortimer Foundation (SMF) was established as a charity to help those with neurodivergent minds recognise their strengths and talents through engineering and making.

Neurodiversity refers to those whose neurological development and function are different to what is considered the norm. Those with neurodivergent minds can be highly creative, analytical, focused, problem solvers, have a high level of attention to detail, and think outside the box.

Those of us with neurodivergent minds can struggle in main-stream education because of the rigid curriculums and environments that are put in place to suit the ‘norm’. Sadly, this can result in students becoming discouraged and disinterested in learning.

The foundation aims to introduce these individuals to a highly practical hands-on form of education in an area of interest to them. This is used to build their confidence and self-esteem and make an impact on their chosen industry and help to define its future evolution.
