Updated: 9th April, 2023 – prices announced with booking details.
Last year, at the end of July, members of the Quantum Technology decamped to Charity Farm, in Wrightington near Wigan, for the annual North West Radio Camp. This was the second running of the weekend-long event, the first being in 2021 when it was a rather wet affair.

However, never to be deterred by the weather, members of the Leyland And District Amateur Radio Group (LADAR) worked their magic and organised a second North West Radio Camp last year, in 2022. This time they enjoyed much better weather, more campers and some great contacts – just as the solar cycle was starting to pick up again. Most distant contact was Japan by our own G7LFC using FT8, a Yeasu FT-857 on 50w and a vertical HF-360 antenna supplied several years ago by the Snowdonia Radio Company (SRC).
Present from Quantum where Derek, Alison and Trevor.
The event was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed – even by the wives, some of whom formed themselves into a break-away crafting group (well knitting and crocheting to be accurate).

North West Radio Camp 2023
We’re pleased to have been asked back for the 2023 that is likely to be run over the weekend of 4th-6th August (to be confirmed) at the same venue. The plan for this year is to establish zones in the field to keep antennas as far apart as possible. So there will be HF CW in one corner, HF SSB in another, VHF in a third corner and data (run by Quantum) in the final corner. In the middle-ish ofd the field will be an official Craft tent, to be organised by Alison. One project that may be on the cards is the manufacturer of Little Hams that can be used to raise money for the clubs involved. Campers and the central social area will be dispersed around the field in-between the activity centres.
This promises to be a really great weekend and you are all encouraged to come and camp, or pay us a visit. The cost per person £30 per person for those camping and a suggested donation of £5 for those visiting during the day/evening.
Prices for the event are yet to be confirmed, but further details can be obtained from the LADAR website, or by emailing [email protected].
