GB9WHP Special Event Station - ConistonGB9WHP Special Event Station - Coniston

For the last few years we have arranged a weekend in Coniston, during which we have run a special event at the Ruskin Museum to celebrate the work of William Henry Preece. The event normally takes place on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday weekend. However, due to a change in circumstances, we have had to move the event to the first weekend in August – 3rd and 4th.

During the event we run an amateur radio special event station to raise awareness of Preece’s experiments across Coniston Water and give visitors an opportunity to have a look at some of the other technology our members are interested in.

This year will be another reason for celebration and remembrance at the museum as, in the coming few weeks, the record breaking, hotly contested, Bluebird is due to return to its rightful home. No doubt visitor numbers maybe bolstered during this summer as folk flock to see the boat for the first time.

All members are encouraged to come along and enjoy a weekend away; be it camping, Youth Hostelling, or staying in a local B&B / hotel. As is traditional, Saturday evening will see us dining at a local hostelry for some fine local food. Our friends from SADARC (Southport & District Amateur Radio Club) and LADAR (Leyland & District Amateur Radio Group) are welcome to join us too.
