Lancashire Day, 27th November each year, celebrates the formation and establishment of the county of Lancashire back in 1295. Every year the Quantum Technology Club sets up at Ormskirk Library on the closest Saturday to, not only celebrate with an amateur radio special event station, but also what the club has gotten ups to during the year. This year’s event took place on the 25th.

Several members were in attendance. The activities available to library visitors included:
- An amateur radio special event station, callsign GB8LD, that made just short of eighty contacts around the world to raise awareness of the day here in the UK.
- A big favourite of visitors to our events – Quantris. This huge game resembles a popular block rotation and drop game from the eighties, but on a much bigger scale.
- Another popular activity – our Morse Code have-a-go table. This seems to be grabbing the attention of adults now, not just kids who are always attracted to it.
- A colouring station where youngsters could colour in, and take home, a Lancashire flag to help them celebrate on the 27th.
We did have quite few people show an interest and what we were doing, several of whom were interested in the amateur radio side of things. Considering conditions weren’t brilliant, we did manage contacts on four continents (Europe, Asia, Africa and North America).
